Police Invite Ecstasy Users to Turn Over Potentially Lethal Pills Without Consequence

I recently blogged about a Bad Ecstasy Alert in Canada. After five deaths in British Columbia have now been confirmed as being linked to killer ecstasy compound PMMA, police are inviting ecstasy users to turn over their pills for testing, without consequence, in the hope of preventing further deaths.

The Vancouver Sun reported that since the deaths, police have become increasingly worried about further deaths being caused by PMMA being out on the streets, and have made it clear that they are not going after individual ecstasy users. Even more deaths have been linked to the drug in the neighbouring province of Alberta, and Alberta Health Services are offering PMMA FAQ information for anyone concerned about PMMA, and how to access help if you or someone else may have taken the drug.

Advice for parents:

In the words of Russ Miller, whose 20 year old son Tyler died last November after taking PMMA: "Don't trust everything you're told. You want to double-check and then triple-check. Being a little nosy but having them there for the rest of your life? I'd rather be a little nosy. Even that's not going to guarantee a sure thing, but at that point you've done what you can."
