Delusions are a tricky subject for many people to get their heads around. How can a doctor figure out whether someone's beliefs are true or not, and what does it matter if they are incorrect anyway?
Well, delusions are more than simply holding a different point of view from those around you -- they are profoundly different beliefs, and typically lacking in external evidence that would be considered credible to those around them.
Delusions happen when the brain isn't processing information correctly, which can be the result of taking drugs, or can happen in response to extreme stress or during one of several mental illnesses. If you or someone you know is having bizarre beliefs, or other people are telling you that things you believe can't possibly be true, it is important to see a doctor and get help as soon as possible.
