A new law in Erie County aims to target and prevent cyber bullying by making electronic harassment a misdemeanor, reported WIVB on Friday.
It has taken months to come into force, following the tragic death by suicide of 14 year old Jamey Rodymeyer, a victim of both in person and cyber bullying.
Although the law is unlikely to catch every instance of cyber bullying, it is intended to be a deterrent. I feel it sends a clear message that cyber bulling is inexcusable, and should not be tolerated. And I hope that some people who are not socially astute enough to know they are doing it, will wise up to how they treat others online.
So how should you avoid cyber bullying? A good starting point for all internet users, would be to follow my ten rules of netiquette.
