Keeping Healthy While Keeping Fit

These days, it would be easy to be completely hooked on exercise without anyone around you thinking you could be unhealthy. Obesity seems to be the crime of century, and over-exercise seems to be a virtue. But like other addictions, exercise addiction can impact your life, your relationships, and your well-being.

Exercise is a great way to stay healthy, so abstinence is out of the question. So how can you keep your exercise healthy, while still keeping fit?

Start by following these five tips:

  • Five Ways to Avoid Exercise Addiction

If exercising is central to your self esteem, start to build self esteem around more than your obsession with working out and fitness or physical strength.

And if this isn't enough, talk to your doctor. They can refer you to a therapist who can use a technique such as CBT to help you to control your urge to exercise, and to gain control over the underlying distorted thinking and emotions that are driving your addiction. They can also prescribe medication, such as antidepressants, which can sometimes help with the emotional difficulties underlying addictive behaviors.
