One of the reasons some people like to take hallucinogenic drugs, such as LSD or magic mushrooms, is to experience hallucinations -- often referred to as "visuals." For some, this is an amusing experience, sometimes likened to entering a world of cartoon characters, while for others, it is described as a mystical experience, in which visions lead to profound insight.
Yet when you hear of the hallucinations people perceive on drugs, they seem to be a pretty obvious projection of the person's own inner world. So drugs aren't necessarily going to make you any more profound and mystical than you would be with some quiet introspection. There are no shortcuts to enlightenment, and drugs won't make you more intelligent or put anything into your mind that wasn't there already.
However, unfortunately, the opposite is true. Hallucinogenic drugs do have the capacity to muddle and confuse things in your mind, and leave you feeling muddled and confused afterwards. In short, hallucinogenic drugs can make you stupid, sometimes for a short time, sometimes for a longer time.
If you carry on having hallucinations of any kind after a drug you have taken should have worn off, it is important to see a doctor as soon as possible. Sometimes it can be the result of a flashback, sometimes it can be caused by stress and exhaustion caused by lifestyle factors during a drug binge, such as lack of adequate food or rest, and sometimes it can be a substance induced mental health problem, such as psychosis.
Regardless of the nature of the problem, a doctor will be able to help you to deal with the after effects, and get you on the right track for mental and physical health.
